Professional Organizations and Conference Presentations

Interested in what I do for professional development? Here are some of my current activities and groups.​

 

  • I will be presenting at the American Library Association Annual Conference in San Francisco on Friday, June 26 (Mentorship Magic: a closed session for Spectrum Scholars), Saturday, June 27 (Conversation Starter: Girls Like Fart Jokes and Boys Have Feelings: Putting an End to Gendered Reader's Advisory), and Monday, June 29 (Student Asisstants 2.0: More Than Shelving and Stapling).

  • I joined the We Need Diverse Books team in February 2015 as a librarian.

  • I am a member of the Children's Literature Association, American Library Association, and Beta Phi Mu.

  • I am a member of the YALSA Award Nominating Committee for 2015-16.

  • I presented at KidLitCon in Sacramento in October 2014.

  • I was a member of the Young Adult Reference Services committee, a part of the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA)​, from 2012-2014. I am a member of the YALSAblog Advisory Board and the YALSA Awards Nominating Committee currently.

  • I was on the 2014 Morris Award committee, which honors debut YA authors and is sponsored by YALSA.

  • I was a member of the Simmons chapter of the Progressive Librarians Guild, and I served as the community outreach coordinator. The PLG is dedicated to working towards social justice in the library field. You can visit the chapter's blog here.​

  • I was a member of the Youth Engagement committee, a part of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of ALA, from 2012-2014.

  • Past conference attendance: YALSA YA Literature Symposium (November 2014); Long Island Library Association Conference (May 2013; I presented on behalf of the Center on Media and Child Health); ALA Annual (June 2013); YALSA YA Literature Symposium (November 2012; I presented a paper); the Boston Book Festival (October 2012); ALA Annual and the Spectrum Institute (June 2012); the Association of Writers and Writing Programs Annual Conference (March 2012); the American Association of School Librarians Conference (October 2011).
